: - first installation in Europe
for a microturbine on a landfill
- joint experimentation
(Verdesis - Marcopolo Environment Group - EDF R&D) this pilot site allowed
to compare in the same field a Capstone microturbine as well as a 250kW Mercedes
engine. The paper enclosed gives the results and findings of the successful demonstration.

- first installation in Europe for a siloxane filter
on a 1MW engine using patented Activated Graphite SAG (from Applied Filter
Technology),
Main conclusions : Verdesis solution combining different
layers of activated carbon and Activated Graphite SAG has proved to filter
the biogas at detection limit (0,005mg/m3) regarding siloxanes molecules. The
quality of the biogas treated by Verdesis is close to natural gas from the point
of view of the engine. Activated carbon alone can at best reduce siloxane,
the 5%-10% siloxanes remaining coming through are causing enough trouble to explain
its bad press. Washing tower alone can at best reduce siloxane: the 25%-30%
siloxanes coming through is the reason why, activated graphite must be used in
connection with this technology. The quality of the biogas after drying,
reheating and filtering explain why more than 60 happy customers in USA are using
SAG instead of any other solutions with pay back in two years typically. This
technology is becoming a standard in sewage plant since installation is designed
for 15-25 years. 3 Marche en Famenne

- 1st installation in Europe
of microturbines in a container with a system of cogeneration allowing the heat
from the exhaust to heat the buildings of the site and in a close future to heat
the leachate. This site was completed in a really short time (6 months after signature
of the purchase order) on a landfill discharged by the SPAQuE (public company
for help of the quality of the environment). The installations is completely automated
so that the whole system can run remotely with a supervision software. After 6
months of operation, the turbines have already 4000 hours of running time and
have more than 98% availability. The filtration system allows to have very low
emissions of NOX (less than 10 PPM) and CO (less than 20 PPM).

- 1st installation in Europe
of a siloxane filter using a SWOP unit. This system is based on a new technology
allowing a regeneration of the media by a heating loop to remove siloxanes from
the biogas and send them to a flare. This system is based on a new principle and
is the 1st in the world, exclusively produced by Verdesis/AFT. The added value
of Verdesis is in the design, the dimensioning and the integration in a system
made by Verdesis/AFT. Moreover, the advantages are the low cost, less maintenance,
the quality of the equipments with a competitive price and in the quality of the
biogas at the end of the treatment. The regeneration on site of the media followed
by a system of polishing based on a multi-coating activated graphite exclusivity
of Verdesis/AFT patented allow to guarantee a quality of biogas close to the quality
of the natural gas on the motor sight.

- 1st installation In Europe
of a siloxane filter using SAG media - activated Graphite,
Main conclusions
: The Verdesis solution using several types of activated carbons such as activated
graphite permitted to prove with an independent laboratory that the siloxane level
in the biogas is under the limits of detection. The quality of the biogas filtrated
by Verdesis is close to the quality of the natural gas. The classical activated
carbon media allows only a reduction of the siloxanes level.
